More than a hundred farmers, present at the l’Assemblée Générale on the 23rd of January 2004, adopted a secret bulletin, in which a mostly unanimous vote announced “the creation of a Board of Directors in charge of planning the main themes for the future chamber d’agriculture of the Basque Country…”.
Since, up to this point there had been no official, positive and or clear response on the part of the French government, this board put forth an agenda, prior to the end of 2004, which ended up being the creation of the chamber of agriculture of the Basque Country.
Many months followed in reflection of feasibility and success of such a project, After 10 years of evaluation, of argument and many hours of laborious work... EUSKAL HERRIKO LABORANTZA GANBARA finally became so.
Euskal Herriko Laborantza Ganbara, was created on the 15th of January 2005, in the presence of a thousand people, in accordance with Association Rule 1901.
THUS named and created, this organization accentuated 2 key functions:
The continued harassment of the Préfet (county, region or département) (letter dated 7 January 2005), including 8 days prior to opening the doors of the new Headquarters (having been announced one year prior and all reports having been made public), contributed to a huge crowd assembled in demonstration on the 15 of January, 2005. Here gathered, was a public of peasants, farmers, elected officials, people from the cities, and those from all walks of life… together.
These peaceful, determined activists indicated a real social movement, with an outpouring of expression and sentiment. It was this conviction and support that inspired and motivated Euskal Herriko Laborantza Ganbara which giving it required legitimacy and the powerful drive needed to succeed.
